Friday Night Lights, Senior Spotlight:
Preston Michel
'Football is a way to get away from it all. It is a different place and different ‘time’ with my brothers out there. A place for me to just compete in a different way and to grow and do things. I love my team and would do anything for them, for us all. The game has meaning for me on Friday Nights. It is something to push for, it is something to achieve for and prepare for.
Friday Nights started for me as a Junior High player at WCK Junior High in 8th grade. I have been loving it and playing ever since.
I have been blessed and had a lot of success in this game I love, along the way, I have 4325 yards rushing and 96 touchdowns. I was awarded All state status as a RB in 9th grade and Linebacker All State in 11th.
I would love the WCK community to know that we all have dedicated so much to this team and it is like a family, we have dedicated so much to the community that we represent through athletics. Come out and celebrate with us!” Preston Michel

9/11 Patriot Day A day we honor and is never forgotten. “In remembrance, we find unity. In unity, we find strength.” — Unknown

A friendly reminder when coming to our High School home games, we only accept cash or current ASB/sports passes to get into the games. And don't forget snacks! Our concessions will be open and ready to serve you.

Remember Friday Night Lights are moved to Thursday this week! 7 PM at Emerson Park. Last week in Springdale, these seniors were either the motor that charged the offense or the folks responsible to move the ball down the field. In all we scored 10 times and got all our 2 pt Conversions. Final Score 80-20. Our boys are looking forward to showing you what they can do in our Home opener this week!

Coach Peyton!
A transplant from South Carolina, Peyton moved here to the Creston and Wilbur area prior to 8th grade. Instantly he joined our sports programs and excelled at football, basketball and baseball.
Moving into High School as a freshman there was playing time for him and a start against Kettle Falls, sophomore through senior year, Quarterback, Tight End and Linebacker positions were the job for Friday Nights! Peyton began volunteering with our football team as a volunteer coach in his first year of college. After that time, he has joined our school district as an employee working with young students that have disabilities and coaching Football and Baseball! There is a legacy of excellence and gratitude from this great young man.
"I love the small community feel, and how sports bring us all together, there is so much Wildcat Pride, and only so many minutes to be on the field. We have to make the most of every second."

I have struggled for the right words to honor this Friday Night Lights Hero. I am so grateful that the following was submitted in honor of our very own Hero, Nathan Hays by Amanda DeBord.
It wouldn't be right to talk about Wildcat Football without mentioning Nathan Hays. Nathan was a class of '99 graduate of Wilbur High School and proudly sported the same number on his football jersey. Nathan was a leader on the field as team captain, playing offense and defense, and off the field as one of the most genuine, kind, outgoing, and hardworking people around. After high school, Nathan joined the Marine Corps where he supposedly loved boot camp! In January of 2002, Nathan's life was cut short when the plane he was on crashed into a mountain range in Pakistan; a plane that he volunteered to go on in place of a fellow flight mechanic. He was just 21. His loss was felt by the entire Wildcat community and his retired #99 jersey now hangs proudly in the high school. Our Wildcat team plays under the lights at the east end of Wilbur and when you come to a game, you'll see a sign saying you've reached Emerson Field in honor of Marine Sergeant Nathan Hays. Wildcat fans near and far know who Nathan was and will forever be grateful for all he gave for us, on and off the field.
The world we live in is small. Current Wildcat Coach and Fellow Marine, Shane Smoger as a part of his last duty, taught Marine Firefighters about this specific incident and lessons learned. He was overwhelmed when he moved here as saw not just the jersey but the C130 picture he taught about for years. While you will never again see the number 99 on Friday Nights, we know that goodness, and heroics are alive and well in Wilbur and Creston! It is always a great day to be a Wildcat!

Today at around 2:15pm we had a fire alarm at Wilbur School District go off. It has been an ongoing problem solving adventure with the Fire Alarm company and our Wilbur school as to why these alarms keep going off. We are working hard to get this fixed. Thank you for being patient, we know there have been several inquiries as to what is going on.
On the sunny side of things, all the students did an excellent job at completing our monthly drill practice!

Hello Wildcat Families,
Please remember there is no school Monday, Sept 2nd in observance of Labor Day. Have a safe and fun three day weekend and we will see you Tuesday!
Take a look at our website calendar to see all the school and athletic events happening at your Wilbur and Creston Schools.

It is not just players and coaches that love Friday Night Lights. Friday Nights are for the moms too. #sweekstakes #FN5GL @Tmobile
The uniforms. The music. The stands. The cheers.
And the lights - oh, those Friday Night Lights!
As a mom to a young Wilbur-Creston high school athlete I had a steady date every Friday night for four years.
This is not just any date. The night is full of music from the band, entertainment, community, and sometimes a dash of agony - but mostly pure joy.
When my son took to the field under the bright lights for the first time as a freshman I could have never imagined how quickly this Friday night ritual would come to an end.
And when he prepared to take to the field as a high school senior, and captain, I couldn’t help but picture the little boy who loved to play catch in the backyard.
I think for most moms when your child is on the football field, a gasp comes over you with every snap and every tackle. It’s not for the faint of heart!
The football field is a place where dreams come true. Lessons are learned. The thrill of victory is in the air. The agony of defeat is shouldered by those who chose to show up.
Despite having a vacancy in my calendar, the memories made watching high school kids leave it all on the field, under those lights, will live on.

Hooray to a successful first day of school at the Wilbur and Creston School Districts!
Thank you to all our Wildcat students and staff for adjusting to our new cell phone policy. We had a great first day and cell phones were not an issue.

Wildcat Friday Night Lights stories keep rolling in! @T-mobile, #sweepstakes #FN5GL
When we moved here in 2020 it was a new world for Dru. Our son was a sophomore coming from a 4A school to a 1B, which was quite the learning curve. He grew up with each kid having a "speciality" spot and not a lot of movement within teams. He quickly learned to play multiple positions and new rules. It gave him the opportunity to test out new positions and see where he excelled. I know he would not have had that opportunity elsewhere. He played on the offense and defensive line. He ended up settling into the quarterback position but don't you worry, he still played on the defensive side too in most games. He had one heck of an arm! He truly loved playing for our small town and if he was still here (serves in the US Navy) he would be right here every second he could helping out our future players. Let's get our future players a stadium! Photos and story courtesy of Heidi Christian.
