Here we go, Wildcat Nation—this week is stacked with action, and our athletes are ready to leave it all on the court and field!

💥 Junior High Volleyball kicks things off with Coach Llewellyn and Coach Robertson leading the charge. They hit the road to ACH on Monday, then battle it out at home on Wednesday against Odessa. Pack the gym and bring the noise!

💥 Junior High Football makes their season debut Thursday night at ACH. These boys have been working hard and are hungry to hit the field—let’s show up and show that Wildcat pride!

💥 High School Volleyball is locked in for two showdowns—Tuesday on the road against our rivals, the ACH Warriors, then again on Saturday against Oakesdale Nighthawks. The streak is alive, and the girls are ready to keep it rolling!

💥 High School Football stays on the “Road to Repeat,” under the Friday Night Lights in Palouse. You know what that means—it’s time to bring the strength, the fire, and the Wildcat spirit!
Because at the end of the day, grit is playing with heart, fighting through challenges, and never backing down—no matter what.

It’s a big week, Wildcats. Stay sharp, play hard, and leave no doubt.
🔥 Go WCK Wildcats!! 🔥

Friday Night Lights – Spotlight on Coach Reppe!

It’s hard to put 14 seasons into a single post, but if you’ve ever stood under the Friday Night Lights in our community, you know football is so much more than a game—it’s family. From grandparents to grandkids, from friends to neighbors, every fall our towns gather around the WCK Wildcats, sharing team dinners, cookies, hugs, and a whole lot of love. Players graduate and return with their wives and children, still cheering on the next generation and passing down the tradition. Small-town football builds more than wins—it shapes character, teaching patience, hard work, teamwork, humility in victory, and grace in defeat.

At the center of it all is Coach Darin Reppe, who has devoted over a decade to leading, teaching, and mentoring WCK student athletes while balancing the relentless demands of being a head coach. In 2024, his passion and leadership guided the Wildcats to their first-ever state championship, a historic victory that earned him the title of Class 1B All-State Coach of the Year by SBLive. His achievements also reached the professional stage when he was honored as the Seattle Seahawks High School Coach of the Week, connecting our small-town Friday nights with the NFL spotlight. Most recently, his continued impact earned him recognition as a finalist for Region Coach of the Year at the 2025 Spokane Youth Sports Awards, underscoring the respect he’s earned both on the field and across the wider athletic community.

Thank you, Coach Reppe, for your leadership, and thank you, Yvonne, for standing beside him—the coach’s wife is one of the toughest and most wonderful roles under the Friday Night Lights.

To continue the TMobile Friday Night Lights story of the WCK Wildcats, you can’t talk about Wildcat Football without talking about #99.

To honor this Friday Night Lights Hero, the following tribute to our very own Wildcat, Marine Sergeant Nathan Hays, was shared by Amanda DeBord—and it’s too powerful not to share again this year.
It wouldn’t be right to talk about Wildcat Football without remembering Nathan Hays. A 1999 graduate of Wilbur High School, Nathan was not only a standout athlete but a leader in every sense of the word. Wearing #99, he gave his all on both offense and defense, serving as team captain and setting the standard for what it means to be a Wildcat. Off the field, Nathan was known for his kindness, work ethic, and the way he could light up a room with his outgoing spirit.
After graduation, Nathan took that same determination into the United States Marine Corps. True to his character, he even embraced boot camp—something most would dread but he “supposedly loved.” In January 2002, at only 21 years old, Nathan’s life was tragically cut short when the plane he was on crashed into the mountains of Pakistan that he had volunteered for by stepping in for a flight mechanic. That act of selflessness defined who Nathan was.
His loss shook the entire Wildcat community, but his memory has never faded. His #99 jersey was permanently retired and now hangs with honor in our high school. Every Friday night, when the lights shine on Emerson Field—named in honor of Marine Sergeant Nathan Hays—you’ll find a sign reminding us of his sacrifice. Wildcat fans near and far know who Nathan was and will forever be grateful for all he gave for us, on and off the field.
The world is a small place and the story doesn’t end there. One of our current Wildcat Coaches, Shane Smoger, also a Marine, once taught lessons about that very C-130 crash and the lessons learned to Marine Firefighters as part of his last service. When he came to Wilbur, he was overwhelmed to see the jersey, the field, and the picture of the aircraft he had spoken of for years. Fate has a way of bringing things full circle, and it’s clear that Nathan’s legacy still guides and inspires.
While we’ll never again see #99 take the field on a Friday night, we know his heroism, kindness, and goodness live on in Wilbur and Creston. Nathan’s story reminds us that it’s not just about football—it’s about community, sacrifice, and carrying forward the spirit of those who came before us.
Every time our team steps under the lights, we know Nathan is right there with us. And that’s why—it’s always a great day to be a Wildcat!
